National Day of Mourning: January 9, 2025 – Key Updates

Client Notice: National Day of Mourning on Thursday, January 9th, 2025.

On December 29, 2024, President Biden declared a National Day of Mourning and ordered the U.S. Federal Government to close on Thursday, January 9, 2025, to honor Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, who passed away on December 29, 2024.

Our custodian, Fidelity Investments, will be open on January 9, 2025 but will have some changes to their operations depending on function and department. Centerpoint Advisors will operate under normal business hours; however, please note the following implications for business operations:

  • U.S. Bond Markets will close early on January 9 at 2:00 p.m. ET.
  • All U.S. Equity and Options Markets (NYSE and NASDAQ) will be closed on January 9.  Equity trades requested on January 9th will be queued for processing on Friday, January 10th. The Fidelity Equity Desk will be closed.
  • Fidelity Money Market Funds will follow their normal trading hours as will most banking institutions.
  • Mutual Fund (MF) trading will be closed. As with equities, orders placed on the January 9th will be accepted and queued for processing on January 10th.

  • Trade settlements will occur on January 9 for domestic and international trades from January 8.
