Each year the Centerpoint Team “adopts” a cause for the holiday season. As you may recall, last year we volunteered at the Winslow Farm Animal Sanctuary and held a drive at the office in collection of canned pet food to donate to the farm. We were humbled by the amount of clients and colleagues who participated in one of these ways, and Winslow Farm could not have been more thankful. Reflecting on 2016, there is a cause that is close to us and that has been ever-present in our conversations with clients, colleagues, friends, and professional acquaintances- mental health and addiction awareness. In effort to raise awareness for these all-too-common struggles, we have chosen to support Advocates as our charitable initiative this year.
Advocates champions people who face developmental, mental health, or other life challenges through counseling, housing, and other supports. With services reaching too many to list, Advocates is certainly an organization worth supporting. We hope you will visit their webpage, www.Advocates.org, to learn more about the work that they do.
Many times those who are residents of an Advocates group home arrive there with just the clothes on their back, having come directly from the hospital or an unsafe situation. This year we will be holding a Necessities Drive at our office, and will be collecting travel-size toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, bath wash, lotion, deodorant, etc. as well as fleece coats to donate to such residents. We welcome you to bring donations to your next meeting or to our office anytime between 10am-4pm, Monday through Friday. We will be holding the Drive now through December 14th. If you prefer to make a monetary donation, click here. In addition to holding the drive, the Centerpoint Team will also be volunteering at the Advocates Packing Party on December 15th where we will help wrap gifts that the organization has gathered for the residents as well as packaging welcome bags.
If you or someone you know is experiencing uncomfortable mental health or facing addiction, please reach out to Advocates at 1-800-640-5432 and a trained professional will be available to assist you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
